GPU Break-Even Calculator: Rent vs Buy a DGX Spark or Turnkey System
Enter your hours, a current rental rate and your hardware price to compare renting a cloud GPU, buying bare hardware and a turnkey system over time. Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
Read this first: every default except the two dated prices is a placeholder, not a quote. Replace the rental rate with a current offer you actually found, and your own hours and costs. A rented GPU and a DGX Spark are not the same machine, so this compares cost, not speed.
Results
Lowest total cost at these inputs: renting.
| Option | Ongoing cost per month | Total over horizon | Break-even versus renting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rent a cloud GPU | $80 | $2,880 | Baseline |
| Buy bare hardware | $1 | $6,993 | About 88 months, beyond your 36-month horizon. |
| Buy turnkey system | $1 | $15,168 | About 192 months, beyond your 36-month horizon. |
How it is calculated
- Rent per month = hours × hourly rate + other rental costs.
- Bare hardware total = price + setup cost + power cost × months − resale value. Power cost = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × electricity price, assuming the machine draws power only while in use.
- Turnkey total = turnkey price + (power cost + monthly support plan) × months. No resale value is applied.
- Break-even = upfront cost ÷ (monthly rent − monthly ownership running cost). If renting is never more expensive per month than running the hardware, break-even shows as "never".
What this does not include
- Speed. A rented GPU and a DGX Spark have different memory, bandwidth and software behavior; compare completed work, not just hourly cost.
- Taxes, shipping, warranty, financing, cooling, space, upgrades and the cost of delays or outages.
- Data constraints. If your data cannot leave your premises, renting may not be an option at any price.
- Contract terms. Check cancellation and deposit terms before ordering a turnkey system; Aradia's page lists a cancellation fee of 40% of the Spark turnkey total before deployment.
Where the default numbers come from
The $6,950 hardware price is the last NVIDIA Marketplace reading we could take (2026-10-06, out of stock). The $15,125 turnkey price and the optional $1,500 monthly plan are from Aradia's pricing page, read on 2026-10-23. Everything else is a placeholder you should replace. Prices change; confirm current figures before you buy or rent.
